Trees and Water
Trees and Water
UCF is an organization dedicated to preserving and replanting native trees. They work with village communities, schools, clinics and social organizations on the north side of Murchison Falls National Park. Even here in this very remote area, deforestation for the production of charcoal is unimaginable. There are areas that I was able to experience completely deep green and forested 10 years ago, which are now only grass and thorn steppes.
What we can do as an organization is of course just a drop in the bucket, but together with UCF we are sensitizing our students and godchildren to this impending environmental catastrophe. The children plant the trees themselves, and they then put up signs with their names so that everyone can watch the sapling they plant grow.
Our biggest enemies when planting trees are still termites and of course the constant lack of water.
Unfortunately, the fountain is still not fully built, so many factors such as logistics and procurement of materials stood in the way. The actual drilling has already been done, and sufficient water has been found at a depth of 120 meters. We very much hope that the well will be connected within the next two weeks. More on that in the next newsletter.
Unfortunately, we repeatedly had to have a tanker truck come from the district capital, 50 km away, to fetch water for us.
Thank you very much to all of you for raising the large sum for the construction of the well.
Love and Blessings from Uganda
